After a long, cold winter, it’s so great to get outside and work in the yard. In our case, since it’s just the two of us, “yard work” takes on a whole new meaning. We have a couple of acres of yard to manage, not something a lot of people our age would take on, but we love it. The Spring rain this year has the grass growing at a rapid pace, and there’s a LOT of chores to be done.
These flowers are among the first to appear …gracing our front steps with a splash of color…
This time of year we need to assess what has to be done…whether and where we need new mulch, where the weeding is most necessary, and what changes we want to make to the garden beds, if any. Still in the process of cleaning out the beds…since we both still work full time, weekends are all (four) hands on deck! For the next several weeks, we will be doing some significant yard clean up, maintenance, and sprucing up the garden beds.
Today it was rainy on and off, so I took the opportunity to start trimming the edges of the driveway where the grass has started growing into the gravel. Sort of a thankless job, but we haven’t done it since we’ve been here, and it’s overdue. I only got a portion done today…this is hard work. I like to think of it as “creative exercise”“. Ha! I trimmed about 10” along this side of the driveway by hand using a garden bed edger, a shovel and a rake…I saved the grass strips to put around the pond edge. This is going to take some time to complete…our driveway is really long.
Well, not everybody had to work today…Miss Nika enjoyed her day relaxing in the yard near the apple tree.
All around good day!
