So…here I am blogging for the first time in quite a while.
The truth is that I have been struggling with this website for some time now. I started it to vent about my own frustrations and experiences when I turned 50 in 2007, and for a while I just loved it. It was a fun platform for me to learn how to blog, how to create a website, and how to reach out to other women just like me. It was awesome…every time I wrote a blog, I learned something. I got to be on The Today Show with Meredith Vieira because they found one of my articles online. I got to interview amazing women like Joan Lunden and Linda Evans, and Trisha Meili, the Central Park Jogger. Not to mention a lot of other cool 50+ gals who amazed me and let me write about them.
My website is pretty unique within the baby boomer online space, as it has been nearly all my own writing and created content. A lot can happen in 7 years, and in the internet world, that is like a lifetime. The topic of baby boomer women began to trend, and many more websites appeared with full-time writers, blog feeds, advertising, you name it. It has become harder and harder to stay as visible and relevant as I would like to be. (Yes, I have a full time career and business, so this was a total labor of love.)
Now that I am on “the ‘fer side of 50, I’m feeling the need to move on. I have toyed with the idea of selling the website, of taking it down, of adding a blog feed for other writers to be the focus of new content. The fact is that I just can’t seem to do any of those, it just doesn’t feel right, and yet the website has just languished. I love writing…the kind of writing I did when I first started the site – about whatever came to mind…whatever was important to me and that I was passionate about. So that’s where I’m going now.
Although I love being – and talking about being- a baby boomer women, there is much more to my life at this stage of the game. It is still a huge part of who I am and how I define myself, of course, but it’s as though the older I get, the less I care about voicing my opinion. And the fact is that I want to have some fun with it, and the best way I know how to do that is to just be me, opinions and all.
So, I’m movin’ on. From this point forward there is no topic off limits. Not just women, not just baby boomers or baby boomer topics. I don’t even know where it will go, but I guess I’ll know when I get there. Hope to see you here!
